MicroEvolution vs MacroEvolution

Has MacroEvolution really never been observed? Have scientists really never seen one "kind" evolve into another "kind"? Surely information can't ever been added to the genome by unintelligent processes.

Review of Creation: The US Distributors Were Right

After extensive research, and contact with numerous insiders on both sides of The Atlantic, I can reveal exclusively on layscience.net the real reason that the film Creation failed to secure U.S. distribution. Jeremy Thomas, the film's producer whined that:

"The film has no distributor in America. It has got a deal everywhere else in the world but in the US, and it's because of what the film is about. People have been saying this is the best film they've seen all year, yet nobody in the US has picked it up."

All Hail the Space Cows!!

[bpsdb] What do you get when a creationist doctor, with an interest in the comparative study of religions, attempts to merge evolution with Islam? You get extra-terrestrial cows, proof that Darwin was a Muslim, and one of the strangest books published.

The author is one Dr Imad Hassan, a Sudanese doctor who came to Britain in 1991, and maintains an interesting website for his book and associated ideas. Hassan certainly seems to be well-intentioned - he spoke up for British teacher who was imprisoned in Sudan over the notorious teddy bear incident for example - but his views are rather unconventional.

Top Te... er, Seven Comedians on Evolution vs. Creationism

Welcome to another post from the Department of Lazy Blogging. Inspired by George Carlin's piece against religion that I posted the other day, here are thoughts on creationism from seven different comedians: Bill Hicks, Ricky Gervais, Robin Ince, Ali G. (featuring Kent Hovind), Eddie Izzard, Joe Rogan and Lewis Black (HT: 2000 Years of Deception). Seven different people, seven different styles, but all with good points to make through the brilliant medium of comedy. Sometimes, when confronted by stupidity on an epic scale, all you can do is laugh, so enjoy!

16% of U.S. Science Teachers are Creationists

ResearchBlogging.orgIn a worrying new paper appearing in PLoS Biology, "Evolution and Creationism in America's Classrooms: A National Portrait", Michael B. Berkman and his colleagues have published the results of a national survey of High School biology teachers, and the findings don't make pleasant reading [1].

Answers Research Journal: Creationists try to Embrace Science, Get All Confused, Write Garbage.

Creationist site "Answers in Genesis" have just launched their new "Answers Research Journal", attracting some rave reviews, such as this poetic assessment from one of my favourite bloggers: "The entire article is nothing more than theocratic masturbation, not science, and like masturbation, they should probably do it in private, rather than clogging our precious intertubes with their rantings". Let's take a look!
