So in response to some prompting by Coturnix at Blog Around the Clock, I'm starting a new monthly (maybe) blog carnival devoted to blogging about life as a scientist - covering things like personal life, publishing, grants, diversity, outreach - under the working title "Carnival of Scientific Life".
The two big questions are what to call it, and how often to host it, so I'd like your input in the comments below please. I'll be making the final decision on August 1st.
What would be a good name for the carnival? (Ideally something without "carnival" in the title.)
Should it be held monthly, or at some other frequency?
The carnival is intended to cover all aspects of life as a scientist, whether it's the lifestyle, career progress, doing a Ph.D., getting funding, climbing the slippery pole, academic life as a minority, working with colleagues and students, dealing with the peer-review process, publishing, grants, science 2.0, amusing anecdotes, conference experiences, philosophical musings, public engagement, or even historical articles about what life was like in the good (or bad) old days.
In other words, anything related to the experience of living the scientific life. Not blogging about research, but blogging about everything that goes with being a researcher. A sort of "meta-science" carnival if you like.
I'll be putting together a hosting schedule here in the coming days. If you're interested, let me know at editor@layscience.net.

So come our with your suggestions then. I'll start...

Monthly seems reasonable. Limit to 5 entries per person (some of us are prolific!). No news snippets, must be original thought.
I can host the first one and we can promote it aggressively on blogs, FB, FF etc.
I love Praxis, it's certainly memorable.
Yes, you hosting the first one would be a great idea. I can push it in a number of places, but help with the promotion would be really useful as you've got far more clout than me.

"Analysis and freaky sensitivity" (from "I am a Scientist" by the Dandy Warhols).
A long shot, I admit.
I like your thinking. I don't like the name, lol, but I like your thinking :)

I was going to comment on Bora's post, but figured I should probably go straight to the source ;)
I love the idea and am happy to contribute and host the carnival! I can host after Sept. anytime on The Other 95%. There are not so many carnivals that host in mid-month (Oekologie is the only one I can think of, Tangled Bank is biweekly), so maybe the 15th of the month is a good time?
Can we steal from Grrl Scientist? "Living the Scientific Life"
I like Meta-Science, Praxis is easy to remember. Some others: "Doing Science", "Being the Scientist", "Science In Vivo"...
I love Kepler's Koffee Shop. It sounds like a bunch of scientists sitting down and chatting.
This is a great idea!! How about "Dreams of Homeostasis", "Stand Back, I'm a Scientist!","The Complete Scientist", "Revisiting the Hypothesis", or "Revise, Resubmit, and Relax"
I'm glad to host sometime- I have a new science career/family life/retaining sanity blog too: http://PowerfulMindCoaching.com/blog
I look forward to seeing what emerges here and would love to contribute!!

We've got a name now. The new blog for it is up at layscience.net/praxis, and you can see the call for posts and hosts here: http://layscience.net/node/244. Have a look at the schedule, and e-mail me or comment if you've got a rough idea which months would be good.
Cheers!
